Our winter season is coming to an end. We had an amazing the Yukon Arctic Ultra in February and the 5th edition of the Lapland Arctic Ultra, which started March 1st, was great, too! We had a record race roster and started into a true winter wonderland! Further down bellow you will find some impressions.
Now the focus is on the Rainforest Ultra and the Bhutan Ultra. Thanks to everyone who has already expressed an interest! I’ve resumed talks and planning with ICMBio in Santarém, and we are all really looking forward to making our first 200 km ultra in the RESEX Tapajós-Arapiuns a reality.
The only thing we still need is more international competitors. It takes courage to sign up for the first edition of an adventure ultra – especially one held in the Amazon jungle. I think many ultra runners may feel hesitant about being in an environment that has a reputation for being “hostile,” where everything is supposed to be out to kill and eat you.
And yes, the jungle can be challenging – it will be hot and humid. However, a good portion of the Rainforest Ultra takes place on beaches. So if you enjoy desert ultras, it will feel somewhat familiar – just with creek crossings in between, a vast river always nearby, and lush green all around you. The jungle trails we use are well traveled by local communities, many of them wide single tracks.
Of course, being in the Amazon always comes with certain risks but since we are not out in the jungle at night, the risk is greatly reduced. You’ll have the chance to experience one of the most extraordinary places on Earth -a region that is vital to the world’s climate and increasingly under threat from people and industries prioritizing profit over our future.
To see a place like this firsthand, to get to know the people who live there, to help them make a living with something that preserves nature and does not destroy it, is something truly special. So don’t hesitate – follow your sense of adventure and join us! And if you have any questions or doubts, please feel free to get in touch.
